      More than a job, I was looking for a home. A place where I could work hard, feel like I was part of something special, and work alongside people I know, trust and respect. Starr Electric was clearly the place for me.

     Over the years, I have been drawn to people who have a passion for getting better. These people, regardless of how well we have performed, have always sought improvement and innovation. With that team of individuals, Starr Electric is a company that readily combines the stability of a 90-year-old company with the agility of a modern contractor.  

      This is why our values are so important. In all the decisions we make and strategies we set forth, values bind us together. Values ground us in the success of our past and guide us forward. My most important task as CEO is to carry forward those values into the future.

      And speaking of the future, I see incredible opportunities for our company and its people. Our people are learning and growing. Our business is evolving. Our company is thriving. I’ve never been this excited about being at Starr Electric.

       I wouldn’t know where to begin to say what Starr Electric has meant to me and my family except to say that Starr is a part of my family. I have been blessed with a beautiful wife of 25 years, an exceptional 23 year-old daughter and many lifelong friends. Starr Electric has been there with me every step of the way. This company has provided me with the means to provide a good life for my family and has been so much more than just a place to work. It has opened doors for me and given me opportunities to learn and grow. This company has celebrated my success and supported me when I fail. Starr has been my home for over half of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

      I started with Starr Electric as a field electrician back in 2004. At that point in my life I was just looking for a job. I began reporting to the Charlotte office and was assigned to a healthcare project out of state. I never believed that this job could mean anything other than that: a series of assignments. To my understanding, Starr Electric was just a large company that did “big jobs.” 


      I had no idea that these experiences were a launching pad for my career at Starr. For 90 years we were focused on the direct future, not on long-term trajectories. Since that time we have truly defined our purpose, vision and goals. We redefined the soul of this company. This soul has been with us since the beginning, but it had long been disconnected. This is an exciting time for Starr Electric; we are changing for the better. As Vice President, I have the opportunity to help implement these changes and enforce our core ideologies. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for  our company, our clients and our employees.

Starr Electric Co. has been my home for over 25 years, which could be considered a lifetime by today’s standards. Most people would ask, ‘why you would stay with a company that long?’ The answer is simple: I get to work with a company filled with talented employees that are always trying to improve the experience for our customers and team members. A company that believes in its core values and lives by them every day. A company that will allow us to leave our industry in a better place than when we started our career in it. Simple.

      The most valuable thing Starr Electric Company has given to me in my 30 years of service to this company is relationships. The Starr family treats me and my coworkers like family. Through hard times and good, Starr Electric is steadfast in its respect for its employees. Even when the economy was down and jobs were hard to come by, Starr Electric never turned its back on its people.


       This company has given me the opportunity to grow and experience innovations within our industry. In the last 30 years, Starr Electric has expanded from one office in Greensboro, NC that covered three states, into a company with seven offices that cover the southeastern United States. I have found friends who became family during my time at Starr Electric and I am grateful for that every day.

        My journey here at Starr Electric began in May of 2004 as a field electrician. At that juncture of my career, quite frankly I was a little “burnt” with the being in supervision, as I had over the years before Starr risen to the role of superintendent. I remember the manager that hired me reviewing the experience listed on my application and asking, “and you’re only applying for an electricians’ position?”. Thank goodness he and Starr Electric saw something in me that I possibly didn’t even see in myself at that time. It has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.

        Because of Starr’s dedication to its people and sense of family, my career and passion for what we do has grown in leaps and bounds. Starr has provided a place for me to call home, not just a job, but a home. I’m very grateful.

        In 2004, I started working with Starr Electric as the HR/Accounts Payable Specialist just for the Raleigh location.  From the very beginning, Starr Electric has always shown integrity as they built relationships with customers by providing quality customer service within our communities.  They embrace their employees as family by caring, encouraging growth, and making decisions to keep them safe every day.

        The great Jackie Robinson once said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives”.  In my current role as HR Director for Starr Electric, I am grateful and fortunate to work with some of the best employees in the construction industry.  I see the daily commitments of our management team, as well as our employees, as we strive to be a positive impact within our Starr family and throughout the surrounding communities by demonstrating our core values of integrity, quality, relationships, and family.
